The goal of a human factors case study is to identify potential dangers, deducing and realizing countermeasures and to transparently work out themes and possible influences of human factors in the lifecycle of technological systems. This leads to human influences being appropriately taken into account, and safety and effectiveness are being ensured.

In the aeronautics sector, the conduct of human factor cases is a normal requirement especially for ATM projects. In the SESAR work plan, human factors studies are envisaged as a cross-section task for all ATM development projects and a case-based approach is being advised.

APPROACH

Structurally, the approach mirrors the general approach of HFC to user-centered development processes, and takes into consideration the best practices of human factors engineering, as they are postulated by Eurocontrol, SESAR and FAA.
