Project ELS
Energy-optimized Guidance and Incident Management System
Within the project ELS a system is developed, which enables energy savings for operators of railbound short-distance traffic systems. The project’s goal is to improve the scheduled operations economically and ecologically by reducing the traction-related energy needs while ensuring adherence to the schedule, as well as warranty of defined connections. Furthermore, resumption strategies following incidents are to be optimized. All in all, the new technology is planned to enable energy-optimized braking, accelerating, and start-up procedures. All information on the vehicle's energy demands is automatically collected and used to create real-time driving recommendations, taking into consideration the information on the overall traffic situation that is available in both the cockpit and the control center.
In the development of the system HFC is concerned with the specification of standard operating functions: We take care of the design of the HMI ( human machine interface) for both the central system components at the control center ( EcoC), which will support the dispatcher in handling incidents, as well as the mobile component inside the vehicles (EcoM), which will help the drivers implement the new, energy-saving way of driving.
The system – developed collaboratively with partners from industry and research – will be used in test mode in the subway of the project partners from the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe BVG.
